Located at Central Park West and 67th
Street, the Tavern on the Green restaurant in NYC was originally built in
1870 as a sheepfold. It housed
200 South Down sheep, which grazed across the street in Central Park’s
Sheep Meadow. Eventually, in
1934, the sheep were banished to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and the Tavern
on the Green restaurant in NYC was launched on October 20, 1934.
Embraced by New Yorkers, the Tavern quickly became a hot spot of the
city’s summer social life. In
the early 1970’s, the Tavern on the Green was no longer a restaurant in
sync with the times and closed. Rather
than closing for good, the Tavern on the Green restaurant in NYC was
reincarnated as a palace that opened August 31, 1976.
Celebrities lined-up to make their reservations at this
seen-and-be-seen restaurant and can still be seen at the Tavern on the Green
restaurant in NYC on a regular basis. The size, setting and charm of
Tavern on the Green restaurant in NYC quickly made it once again a hot spot
for New York’s most prestigious events and it retains that status to this
day. It offers several rooms,
each with different capacities and seating styles.
Some of those rooms include the Crystal Room, the Chestnut room, the
Terrace Room, the Park Room and the Park Garden.
Many of the rooms can be combined to accommodate larger groups.
